While it first emerged in the late 1950s, Pop Art continued well into the 1960s, popping up everywhere from advertising and comic books to fine art. The trend was made famous by the movement’s leading figures, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, and their iconic Pop Art pieces.

Optical Art was a term coined in 1964 by Time magazine to describe a form of abstract design that created illusions using positive and negative space. It fast became one of the biggest trends of the decade. Sometimes generating a sense of movement, sometimes revealing different scenes depending on the viewer’s focus, Optical Art plays upon the figure-ground relationship.

According to Nostalgia and Its Value to Design Strategy: Some Fundamental Considerations, a paper presented at the Proceedings of the Tsinghua-DMI International Design Management Symposium, “Cognitive theorists believe that emotions have a strong influence on human behavior, that is, people will be attracted by the objects that evoke positive emotions and forced away from those things that evoke negative emotions. Nostalgia, like other positive emotions, when it is evoked by certain stimulus (e.g., products, brands), will incite people to approach (e.g., to purchase or to interact with) it.”

Included is a print with some lovely butterflies, in soft blues, greens, periwinkle, brown, and a creamy one too! There’s some wonderful typography on the page as well. That one dates to the mid 1800′s and came from France.

2 Mushroom Species Prints A favorite print in this set is a fabulous vintage mushroom free printable wall art that shows an assortment of different mushrooms. Included are a common mushroom, a chanterelle and a morel. This one was scanned from a circa 1860′s antique British botanical book from England. The paper has aged to perfection with its brown aged edges; such a great patina on this one.
